Build Slide Decks Faster with PowerPoint Copilot

Tool:Microsoft PowerPoint
AI Feature:Copilot
Time:15 minutes
Difficulty:Beginner

What This Does

PowerPoint's Copilot transforms bullet-point notes or a text outline into a complete slide deck — with structure, speaker notes, and suggested content — so you start from a draft instead of a blank canvas.

Before You Start

  • You have Microsoft 365 with Copilot enabled
  • You have PowerPoint desktop app or PowerPoint on the web
  • You have your executive's outline, notes, or key talking points in text form

Steps

1. Open a new presentation and find Copilot

Open PowerPoint and create a new blank presentation. Click the Copilot icon in the Home tab (look for the sparkle icon). The Copilot sidebar opens on the right.

2. Create a presentation from your outline

In the Copilot prompt box, type: "Create a presentation about [topic]. Here are the key points: [paste bullet points or outline text]." Hit Enter. Copilot generates a complete slide structure with slide titles, content, and speaker notes.

3. Review and customize the output

Scroll through the generated slides. Accept slides that work as-is. For slides that need adjustment, click the slide, then use Copilot to "Edit this slide" or "Add more detail to this section." Apply your organization's theme/template after the content looks right.

4. Add speaker notes automatically

Select any slide that needs talking points. Open Copilot and ask "Add speaker notes to this slide explaining [key message]." Copilot writes notes your executive can use directly.

Real Example

Scenario: Your executive hands you a 15-bullet email outlining what they want in Friday's all-hands presentation. You have 90 minutes.

What you type: "Create a 12-slide presentation for a company all-hands meeting. Key messages: [paste the 15 bullets]"

What you get: A 12-slide deck with an opening, 3 theme sections, supporting content slides, and a closing. Apply the company template, adjust a few slides, and it's ready for executive review in 45 minutes instead of 3 hours.

Tips

  • Always apply the company's PowerPoint template after Copilot generates the content — Copilot creates structure, not brand design
  • Use Copilot's "Summarize this presentation" feature to quickly create an executive summary slide
  • If the deck is too long, ask Copilot to "reduce this to 8 slides keeping the most important points"
